What is YERAC |
The ingenious idea of YERAC is to bring together young, callow scientists (usually postgraduate students) working in the field of radio astronomy, and allow them to get to know themselves, exchange their knowledge, and -- of course -- to experience the atmosphere of the first 'real' conference. It is so, that for most of the participants YERAC is the very first international meeting, so they have a chance to test their abilities of making a good speech. There is no stomach-twisting stress from the numerous audience full of smart alecks waiting only to ask you a captious question, since here the spectators are just the same dummies as you! YERAC is ‘user friendly’.
Another old tradition says YERAC is invitation only. Usually the organizers invite one or two guys from every radio astronomy institution in Europe, but this is a director of that institution (or another bigwig) who decide whom to send to YERAC. Be good, and perhaps you will be the chosen one.
