Off-planar neutral and ionized hydrogen gas
The neutral- and ionized phases of the interstellar
medium out of the plane are typically described as a consequence of feedback mechanisms from processes related to
star-formation but they are also of interest with regard to the accretion history of galaxies. This off-planar gas may
affect the stellar distribution in disk galaxies, e.g. through star formation outside of the plane.
The observational evidence for gas in the disk-halo interface of disk galaxies, from the hot X-ray emitting coronal phase
to the diffuse ionized medium, is reviewed and discussed in the context of current
models of the ISM and the "infall vs. outflow" debate.

Projekt RISARD
Czerwone karły (red dwarfs - RDs) są
najliczniejszymi gwiazdami w naszej Galaktyce i prawdopodobnie we Wszechświecie.

SPICA - The Next Generation Infrared Space Mission
SPICA - SPace Infrared telescope for Cosmology and Astrophysics is a
common project of JAXA and ESA with a 3 m class telescope, which will be
cooled for the first time to about 6K. In this way SPICA will provide a
unique environment where 3 planned instruments are limited only by the
cosmic background itself. The wavelength range covered by the SPICA
instruments will be from 5 up to 210 micrometers. The main scientific
objectives of the mission are:
--- formation and evolution of galaxies;
--- formation and evolution of planetary systems; and
--- life cycle of dust.
During my talk I will present overview of the mission and possibility
for Poland to join the SAFARI consortium. SAFARI - Spica FAR infrared
Istrument - is one of the most important instrument planned for SPICA.

German-Polish Intersatellite Experiments
The presentation intends to give a short insight into the
DEPLiX project, a Polish-German project whose technical objective is the
design and launch of two nano-satellites. The satellites will be
developed by MSc and PhD students of several German and Polish
universities. The project, still in its early phase, wants to promote a
hands-on experience for students in space and mechatronics fields as
well as to open collaboration links among partner institutes.

First Integrals of the Silent Universe Models
A Silent Universe (SU) is a dust spacetime with unit velocity
vector field with no rotation and Weyl tensor purely electric with
respect to, u, i.e. its magnetic part vanishes
(Hab(u) = 0). From a purely mathematical point of view, the
model is represented by the system of six first-order, ordinary
differential equations, with nonlinear, but polynomial (quadratic) right
hand side. I have also investigated the Szerekes model, the system
reduced to four equations. I am going to study the integrability of this
system in the sense of finding its first integrals. I've managed to find
some Darboux polynomials for the SU system, which form one first
integral and surprisingly different collection of Darboux polynomials
for Szerekes system. I am also going to present Kovalevskaya exponents
of the system I found and derive some corollaries of the integrability
of SU model.

A search for nontoroidal topological lensing in the SDSS quasar catalog
Our Universe could possess multiply connected topology on large scales, and in
that case multiple images of single objects would be observed (topological
lensing). In this talk, we first introduce a four-point statistics of spatial
distribution of cosmic objects that is designed to detect nontoroidal (generated
by screw motion or glide reflection) flat topologies, and compare it to CMB-based
methods. We next present some results of applying the method to SDSS high-z
quasars.
